ONE HOUR FACILITATION PLAN

Throughout my KNR 171 semester, we were taught the various, successful ways to facilitate a group of people. By clicking on the "W" above, you will see my one hour facilitation plan that was required in class. By writing them out in a script format, lesson plan-like, we had a lot of practice. This one hour facilitation addresses many different activities that focus on children ages 6-8. The theme of the activities is Christmas-"Working in a Winter Wonderland." The facilitators are Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and me, Emily. The goal throughout the entire facilitation is to build teamwork skills that will help each individual learn to work together successfully in a group setting. You will see a diagram of how the room should be set up, as well as a list of the equipment needed for each activity. The activities planned are to decorate stockings, Pin the Nose on the Reindeer, Christmas Tree Wrap Up, Snowball Snowfall, Snowman in a Bag, and the backup activity, which is to decorate Christmas cookies. By clicking on the file above, you will see my entire facilitation in complete detail. Enjoy!

20 Minute Group Facilitation Experience

Throughout the course, each student really learned key terms, concepts, and different ways to successfully become a leader and facilitate their own activities/plans. In the beginning of the semester, we were assigned groups to start this facilitation project. My group's name was called the Recerees. We were given the opportunity to facilitate in front of our fellow classmates to give us some practice on how it will be leading a group of people for our future careers. The directions on what to do our facilitation on were very lenient, which gave us the freedom to come up with whatever activities we wanted. Each facilitation had to be twenty minutes long. Before we had to present our facilitation to our classmates, we practiced, practiced, and practiced some more to feel as comfortable as possible. When the first facilitation was due, we had a "practice round" that we did in front of the class, which was Facilitation 1. Then we had our "final round" which was Facilitation 2. We were recorded by a GoPro video camera each time to give us some insight on how we led a group of people. Our first facilitation was very nerve-racking for each of us. We didn't know what to expect and had hoped we did better than we thought we did. I have provided 2 links to watch my group grow in the facilitation process. By clicking the button below, you will see Facilitation 1 by Kyle, JB, Brenna, and me, Emily.

Group Facilitation 1 "Practice Round"

As you can see, there were some changes that needed to be made, which was expected. That's why it was a practice round, but after watching the video, we realized we didn't do as bad as we had originally thought we did. We noticed some things we were extremely successful, which helped us gain more confidence for the next time we performed our facilitation. We were fortunate enough to facilitate a second time to fix up our mistakes and also build on what we did successfully. It finally came down to doing our Facilitation 2. By clicking the button below, you may watch our changes and how we performed for the second facilitation.

Group Facilitation 2 "Final Round"

The second time around, we felt much better, more comfortable, and we knew what to expect because we were already introduced to leading activities in front of our classmates. Doing these facilitations and having them recorded for our class was very helpful, in my eyes. It shows us what kind of leaders we started out to be, and what we can build on. It will also be interesting to look back in the future and see how much we have grown, individually, as leaders.
